Introduction to SAP Enterprise Portal

Welcome to another series of tutorial blogs on SAP NetWeaver Portal. Lets start with the introduction to SAP Enterprise Portal.

SAP NetWeaver Portal is one of the building blocks in the SAP NetWeaver architecture. With only a Web Browser, users can begin work once they have been authenticated in the portal which offers a single point of access to information, enterprise applications, and services both inside and outside an organization. The NetWeaver Portal also provides the tools to manage this knowledge, to analyze and interrelate it, and to share and collaborate. With its coherent interface, role-based content, and personalization features, the portal enables you to focus exclusively on data relevant to your daily decision-making processes.

Knowledge Management offers capabilities that everyone can use to distribute and access unstructured information within an organization through a heterogeneous repository landscape.

Collaboration brings users, information, and applications together to ensure successful cooperation. All collaboration tools and channels are easily accessible directly from the portal. These tools include collaboration rooms, discussion forums, instant messaging, chat, e-mail, and calendar integration. The Portal is used for different purposes.

·       Internationalization

·       Personalization

·       Integration

·       Authorization

SAP NetWeaver Portal is the platform for running Web Dynpro applications or Dyn Page applications created by SAP or custom designed for connecting to some ERP functionality. In short for a fresher, we can say that EP is a Portal where we can integrate different types of applications in to it. We have user administration for managing the users of portal.

EP is People Integration in Netweaver stack. It is mainly for browser enabling of various heterogeneous systems data.

The Endusers of an organization like CEO, Manager, Vendor, Employee, Customer, Partner, Supplier,

Dealer, Distributor etc will connect to portal server and portal server will connect to various

heterogeneous systems.

EP supports role based access to heterogeneous systems based on the roles and responsibilities of an

Enduser of an organization.

EP supports SSO (Single Sign On) Access to end users for connecting to heterogeneous systems based

on roles and responsibilities of an end-user.

SAP NetWeaver Portal offers a single point of access to SAP and non-SAP information sources, enterprise applications, information repositories, databases and services in and outside your organization—all integrated into a single user experience. It provides you the tools to manage and analyze this knowledge, and to share and collaborate based on it.

With its role-based content, and personalization features, the portal enables users—from employees and customers to partners and suppliers—to focus exclusively on data relevant to daily decision-making processes.

SAP NetWeaver Portal is the Web UI for the newest generation of SAP enterprise applications, providing intuitive, Web-based access to HR, financial, customer relationship management, product lifecycle management, and other critical applications. As a unified interface to these applications, the portal helps each user quickly access the right resources and be as productive as possible.
